This is going to be so much fun.
Well, isn’t this a treat? The first seven minutes of one of my most-anticipated spring movies is up on Hulu for all to see, which means it’s here on CH as well via the smoke and mirrors of embedding. Magic! Thanks, technology!
The movie is The Brothers Bloom, starring Mark Ruffalo, Adrien Brody, and Rachel Weisz as two con men and the possibly crazy heiress they’re trying to defraud (and who may, in turn, be defrauding them right back). Fun, right? Well, check out the opening sequence, as introduced by writer/director Rian Johnson:
If you’re still not getting the appeal, here are a few reasons I’m tapping my fingers for this particular film:
- I love a good con-man movie almost as much as I love a good heist movie. (That would be a lot.) Maybe I secretly want to lie, cheat, and steal for a living. Or, hey, maybe I do lie, cheat, and steal for a living. Do you think I’d tell you if I did? (This whole “part-time movie blogger/quote pitcher” gig is totally my cover.)
- Johnson’s last film, the high-school film noir Brick, written partially in made-up detective lingo, is one of my all-time favorite films. Haven’t seen it? Go. Now. You’ll like it.
- Jenni Miller over at Cinematical loved it.
- Ruffalo and Weisz and, sure, I guess Brody. Weisz excels at playing cool, crazy con-women; see: Confidence.
- It RHYMES. That is so cool. (I miss Pushing Daisies. Sigh.)
The Brothers Bloom comes out May 29.
