Reader Participation: Vince Vaughn….so?

I have a pressing question for the CH readership this fine Monday morning: what, exactly, is the appeal of Vince Vaughn?
I don’t get it. People love him. I mean, there was Swingers, but wasn’t that a good ten years ago now? And shouldn’t we expect a decent movie every once in awhile? Am I missing something? Is Old School really that great? Because all I’ve got is The Break-Up and his new Christmas movie, Fred Claus, which has been in trailers since last Christmas, and I’m thinking there must be something else going on here. Maybe I’m just the wrong demographic.
Befuddled, I’m telling you. Any input, readers?

Um, Vince is the man. It really is funny for me to see people who really have no idea how much he has done. On top of all the comidies (great in Anchorman, great in Wedding Crashers), Vince has a great knack for Drama (Clay Pigeons, Return to Paradise ect.). In order to understand why people like him so much, you must see beyond the movies everyone associates him with.

Hmmm. Maybe I’m just watching the wrong movies.

Which one is Vince Vaughn? He means nothing to me. But I *know* I’m the wrong demographic.

I suppose I am the right demographic, and I’ve only been partial to three of his movies: “Swingers” (actually fourteen years ago), “Made” (a somewhat obscure psuedo follow up to “Swingers”) and “Wedding Crashers”. “Old School” was alright, but was so overrated it has caused a great amount of backlash and I almost hate it now out of spite. So yeah, three good movies in thirteen years isn’t really tantamount to a great track record.

I think Vince Vaughn is a comedic genius. He made Wedding Crashers funny, if you took Vince Gaughn away from Wedding Crashers that movie would not have been funny at all. Just by sheeer force of will he made that movie a classic for me. The man is amazing. He has also made some unbelivable missteps, like the remake of Psycho, but it’s not like he is Cuba Gooding, Jr.
