Reader Participation: It’s a Long Way Down
I just saw a few minutes of Bubble Boy on Comedy Central, and after I finished wondering who thought a re-make of The Boy in the Plastic Bubble would be a great idea, I got to thinking about Jake Gyllenhaal. In 2001, Gyllenhaal was Mr. Up-and-Coming ACK-tor. He’d just wrapped Donnie Darko. So…can somebody explain to me what happened, here?
And while we’re talking about this, I’d like to propose a little competition. The perameters: Most serious (or self-serious) actor in the silliest/lamest/just-plain-worst role. GO.

Here’s my take on it, it was a “paycheck” movie for him. I’ll take my money and go home.
There are all kinds of roles where a somewhat OK or decent actor takes on horrible roles. I’m sorry I may get killed by all the Star Wars fanatics, but Samuel L. Jackson as the wussie Mace Windu in Star Wars was awful. I just see him in Pulp Fiction then in that and I want to barf.
Aaron.

Cuba Gooding, Jr. in Boat Trip, the man has won an Oscar for crying out loud, and after he has won said Oscar he does Boat Trip? It boggles the mind.

You will have a hard time topping Judi Dench appearing in “The Chronicles of Riddick.” Maybe they didn’t tell her what the movie was about.
